In this test condition of insulation is checked by applying hi voltage upto 3kv to wire but using hi voltage tester.Having good isolation helps to guarantee the safety and quality of electrical circuits. Hipot tests are helpful in finding nicked or crushed insulation in wires.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Shrinkage Test” icon=””]In this test 200 mm specimen of the finished wire shall be cut so that the insulation and conductor are flush at both ends, The specimen shall he maintained at the temperature specified in the applicable military specification sheet for 15 min. in an air oven. At the end of this period, the specimen shall be removed from the oven and allowed to return to room temperature. Shrinkage of the insulation shall then be measured as the greatest distance which any part of the insulation has receded from either end of the conductor; that is, the measurement obtained at the end showing the greater shrinkage shall be considered the shrinkage of the specimen.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Megger Test” icon=””]Megger test is also known as insulation resistance test. This method is used for determining the condition of electrical insulation has been widely used for many years as a general non-destructive test method. The test consists in measuring the Insulation resistance of a device under test, while phase and neutral are short circuited together.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Hot deformation test” icon=””]This test is carried out at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1100 °C and at the strain rates of 0.001–1/s. The peak stress decreases with increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate, a behavior which can be described by plotting the Zener-Hollomon parameter as a function of stress.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Water absorption test” icon=””]This test is done to ascertain the quantity of water absorbed when the insulation comes into contact with water or moisture. In this test dried specimens after conditioning shall be weighted. Then it will be placed in container of distilled water(24 hours) maintained at specified temperature . After specified period they shall be taken from the water and all surface water removed with a clean dry cloth. Basically, the conductor resistance test is applied on the cables conductor to check the continuity of the core. The DC resistance of the conductor shall be measured at ambient temperature and corrected for 20°C.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Tensile strength” icon=””]Tensile testing (tension testing) is a fundamental materials science test in which a sample is subjected to a controlled tension until failure. The results from the test are commonly used to select a material for an application, for quality control, and to predict how a material will react under other types of forces.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Ageing test” icon=””]This method is intended for use in determining the effect of elevated temperatures and air at normal atmospheric pressure on rubber and rubber-like insulation and sheaths of insulated wire and cable.
The test shall be carried out at a temperature of 135 degree Celsius +/-1C for a period of 168 hours +/-1hour. Unless otherwise specified in the detail specification, tensile strength and elongations tests shall be used to determine the deterioration of the insulation or sheath due to aging.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Heat shock test” icon=””]During service a wire is likely to get overheated either due to overloading or due to short circuit in motor. This leads to degradation of the insulation and reduces the wire life. however this is long time effect but if such overheating causes cracking of insulation then there is short-circuit in the system.[/fusion_tab][fusion_tab title=”Volume resistivity test” icon=””]In this test The sample is placed into a water filled container (water bath) with a controlled temperature and humidity to a specified time.
